We are immersed in news and information every day. Just how pervasive has the ideology of Marxism become in our culture? Is woke orthodoxy Marxist? How about progressivism? The Democratic Socialists of America? DEI, CRT, LBGTQ+ and ESG? Recent college protests? What about the past and present political positions of the presidential candidates and their running mates on a wide range of issues?
Here is a checklist to help you easily identify Marxism in current events.
Top Three Criteria
Divides society into oppressors vs. the oppressed. __Yes __No
Has a victim group or groups, each with its own victimhood mythology. __Yes __No
Raises the critical consciousness of victims/activists about far-left issues. __Yes __No
If you checked any of the above boxes, you can stop here. You have identified Marxism. For even more refinement, the following are icing on the Marxist cake. The more “Yes” checkmarks you make below, the greater the likelihood you’re dealing with Marxism.
Other Tell-Tale Criteria
Promotes government control and big government. __Yes __No
Promotes abolition of private property. __Yes __No
Anti-capitalist position (opposed to free enterprise). __Yes __No
Promotes heavy graduated income taxes. Slogans: “Tax the rich.” “Pay their fair share.” __Yes __No
Supports the forced redistribution of economic, social and cultural resources (equity), often under a pretext such as eliminating disparities or achieving equal outcomes. __Yes __No
Tries to split society into groups to fight each other (tribalism). __Yes __No
Tries to build antagonism/hatred between groups (anti-liberalism). __Yes __No
Tries to stoke revolution or civil war. __Yes __No
Tries to destroy everything that exists, especially the old, traditional, historical or normal. __Yes __No
Aims to destroy the nuclear family. __Yes __No
Aims to destroy religion. __Yes __No
Emphasizes destruction rather than building or creating. __Yes __No
Exhibits moral relativism: Nothing is black or white; everything is relative. __Yes __No
Believes the end justifies the means. Slogan: “By any means necessary.” __Yes __No
Values equality more than freedom. __Yes __No
