Yeonmi Park is a victim of communism who escaped North Korea and the evils she and her family endured there. After she escaped, she read "Animal Farm." What she got out of George Orwell's novel was that everyone was complicit in the story's outcome by remaining silent. She realized the same silence had occurred during her time in North Korea. Today in the U.S., she notices the propaganda, false narratives, indoctrination and censorship as well as the people remaining silent--patterns that are all too familiar from her years in North Korea.
